Where to start

If this is the first auction you organise, the order is: first how to run an auction night, which covers what to decide before sitting down; then the league rulebook, which puts in writing the rules leagues usually argue about mid-season.

If you only play, start from scoring: bonuses and penalties explain how the final mark is built, and the defence modifier is the item that most often changes a result without anyone noticing.

The most common mistakes during a live auction are collected in a separate guide: five minutes to read, and they save the half hour of argument that follows when they actually happen.

How they are written

Each guide explains one thing and explains it fully, with worked numbers instead of formulas: what a defender goal is worth, what happens to a squad when you spend too early, how the modifier is computed when five marks are involved.

They contain no marks, valuations or player lists, which belong to whoever publishes them. They contain rules and arithmetic, which belong to everyone: that is why they hold whichever site you take your numbers from.
