Two new tools: the league rules and the credit count
One is used once and quoted all season, the other takes ten seconds but is needed at the worst possible moment.
The rules are already written
Almost no league has written rules, and it is not laziness: they have to be written in August, which is exactly when nobody wants to write them. So the generator starts full of the common conventions: you can press print without touching anything and get a valid document.
The hard questions are choices between two answers, not blank fields. What happens when two people call the same amount, what happens to whoever runs out of credits, what to do about the bye with an odd number of teams, what happens if a team quits. Most people setting up a league do not know those questions exist, and discovering them is half the value of the page.
Articles that do not apply do not appear: the bye only with an odd number of teams, the defence modifier only if the league uses it.
And the sum you make while the auctioneer counts
The other tool answers one question: how much can I still bid on this player. Two fields — credits left and empty slots — and one large number.
It has a subtlety heads always miss. With 200 credits and twelve empty slots the maximum is not 200, and not 188 either: buying this player leaves eleven slots to cover, so 189 is the limit. That one-unit difference is what leaves someone with three defenders to buy and two credits in hand.
Below it is the more useful part: pay ninety and you have a hundred and ten credits for eleven slots, ten each. The maximum is a limit; that number is the decision.
Pages now lead somewhere
At the foot of every tool, guide and news piece there are now two or three links to whatever comes naturally next. Before, every page was a dead end.
The pairings are written by hand, not generated from keywords, and a test checks that none of them points at a page that does not exist.
What to read next
League rules
League rules already written and editable: squad, auction, scoring, repair auction and the disputes worth settling early.
ToolHow much can I still bid
Credits left and empty slots: the most you can bid on this player and still fill every slot.
NewsFive lines of league rules that prevent nearly every argument
You do not need ten pages. You need five decisions taken in advance, because taken afterwards they are not decisions but grievances.
